Calex is a specialist training and consultancy organisation working in partnership with several market-leading automotive manufacturers. We are currently seeking to recruit an Inclusion & Learning Liaison Officer (inc DDSL) to join the team at the Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Academy.

The successful candidate will report to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at the state-of-the-art academy based in Milton Keynes. The position plays a vital role in supporting vulnerable young people so that barriers to learning are removed and they can thrive to achieve their full potential. The ideal candidate should have experience in promoting and supporting the wellbeing and engagement of young people and the development of individual support plans.

The role will provide pastoral and safeguarding support for all apprentices to ensure their safety and wellbeing and act as the link between apprentices, the academy team and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

· Have an overview of the strategic provision for pupils with SEN or a disability across the apprenticeship programme, monitoring and reviewing the quality of provision

· Manage the SEN support request process and deliver training to staff through their inductions on the SEND and Inclusion process

· Provide guidance to colleagues on apprentices with SEN or a disability and advise on individual support plans as well as access arrangements for apprentices throughout the programme

· Implement and lead intervention groups for apprentices for SEN and/or pastoral support

· Identify apprentices with SEN and support those with SEN or a disability

· Promote independence and positive behaviours and attitudes through the Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Academy for staff, apprentices and associates

· Secure relevant and appropriate services to support apprentices

· Liaise and review the education, health and care plan (EHCP) with the apprentice, local authorities and apprentice support network

· Ensure records are maintained and kept up to date

· Promote the apprentice’s inclusion in The Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Academy community and access to the curriculum, facilities and the wider business

· Work alongside the DSL for looked-after children, where a looked-after pupil has SEN or a disability

· Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of national and local initiatives, which may affect the academy’s policy and practice

· Promote inclusion throughout the Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Academy through different medias, such as Academy newsletters, noticeboard displays and websites

· Support the DSL in creating and maintaining up to date awareness presentations for apprentices for wider learning, including safeguarding thematic topics

· Support the DSL in managing safeguarding responsibilities in the academy and deputising in their absence

· Maintain accuracy of the safeguarding/SEND register, keeping up to date records on the register and the online safeguarding platform

· Supporting the DSL in ensuring all staff receive appropriate safeguarding training

· To support the DSL in advising all staff on mental health and welfare, SEN and safeguarding matters, to take part in internal/external and inter-agency meetings, and/or to support other staff to do so, and to contribute to the assessment of apprentices

· To undertake risk assessments, safety plans and individual support plans of apprentices based on their needs and review these with the apprentice support network as and when required

You need to possess great attention to detail, be highly organised and proactively seek out new opportunities and ways to improve the learning journey for apprentices.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

· A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Working knowledge and application of The SEND Code of Practice

· Experience in supporting young people with SEND to achieve their full potential.

Desirable:

· *Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Lead Qualification

· Working knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education

· Working knowledge of Matrix Standard Accreditation for Information, Advice & Guidance

· Experience in supporting wider team/colleagues in understanding and applying SEN practices.

* It will be a requirement of the role to achieve this qualification if you do not have a current DSL qualification.

Remuneration Package

· Salary up to £25k depending on experience.

· 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays

Hours of Work

35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm

Please note, Mercedes-Benz offer a 24-hour emergency helpline to apprentices, and it is a requirement of the roles of DSL and DDSL to monitor this phone number. In addition, the vast majority of apprentices are residential and stay at a hotel local to Milton Keynes. Successful candidates will therefore have a rota outside of these working hours to attend the hotel and cover the phone line. An allowance of time in lieu to allow for any out of hours activity will be provided in consideration with the needs of the business.

Calex will undertake the relevant/standard employment checks with any successful candidate as defined in Keeping Children Safe in Education. This includes mandatory references from your current or most recent employer, checking candidate ID, driving licence and right to work in the UK. This role is Regulated Activity with Childrenand therefore subject to further pre-employment checks including Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check with Children’s Barred list

Employment

The successful candidate will be employed by Calex UK (www.calexuk.com). Calex have a resourcing contract to provide staff including Trainers, Developers, Digital Learning Experts, and Administrators to Mercedes-Benz. The successful candidate will join an established team in Milton Keynes
