Role overview
The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) plays a crucial role in supporting the Designated
Safeguarding Lead in the schools and at Trust level in ensuring the safety and well-being of all
students.
This position involves working collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies to safeguard
children and protect them from harm.
You will work within the trust supporting the safeguarding teams across the school according to need.
This role will suit someone who is open to working flexibly within the trust where the need is greatest.

Required:
● Degree or other qualification in education or social work field or equivalent experience
● Experience of working with children or young people in a safeguarding role e.g. teaching or
social care
● Ability to develop effective relationships with students, families, and external agencies
● Ability to deal with challenging situations
● Completion of safeguarding and child protection training (or willingness to undertake this upon
role)
Personal specification
Desired:
● Knowledge of local safeguarding protocols and understanding of multi-agency collaboration,
including social services, police, and healthcare providers.
● Experience of liaising with external agencies and professionals on child protection matters
● Awareness of signs and indicators of abuse or neglect, including specific risks like online safety,
mental health issues, and child exploitation.
● Strong ability to communicate with children, parents, and colleagues sensitively, empathetically,
and effectively.
● Have the ability to identify potential risks to children and vulnerable individuals and take
proactive steps to minimise them.
Role responsibilities
● Be compassionate about empowering children and young people to make more positive choices;
● Working in a multi-agency way to safeguard our children and young people;
● Have an excellent understanding of safeguarding and contextual safeguarding;
● Attend regular multi agency meetings;
● Have strong knowledge of the Keeping Children Safe in Education Guidance;
● Be confident in completing referrals and risk assessments to keep children and young people safe;
● Refer cases of suspected abuse to the local authority children’s social care as required;
● Refer cases to Prevent where there is a radicalisation concern as required;
● Act as a point of contact with safeguarding partners;
● Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure all processes and procedures
are being followed to a high standard;
● Run interventions ad groups as required to support our pupils social and emotional needs;
● Work as a part of a team to support not only the pupils in our community but our families
