The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Asia Regional Safeguarding Director in London or any existing Save the Children International office location.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Making Save the Children (“StC”) safe for children and adults in the community is a global strategic objective for the entire organisation. We have an aligned global safeguarding strategy across the ~17,000 employee strong Save the Children International (“SCI”) and our ~30 plus member’s organisations. SCI works across 5 regions (“RO”), and 56 country offices (“CO”), to deliver lasting change to 40+ million children who come into contact with our work each year.
The purpose of this role is lead the regional safeguarding practice in order to ensure that safeguarding is prioritized, of high quality, and embedded in a culture of prevention, awareness, reporting and response. The ultimate purpose of the role is to ensure that SCI is safeguarding children and adults in the communities where SCI works in the respective region. The Asia Regional Safeguarding Director will combine elements of capacity building and monitoring whilst enforcing compliance and accountability, management and investigation as well as aspects of high-level advocacy.
This role reports directly to the Global Safeguarding Director and works closely with the global safeguarding team, the Asia Regional Director (“RD”), Asia Country Directors (“CD”), and Asia Regional Office Senior Management Team (“RO SMT”).
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- Education to degree standard with a professional qualification in a relevant field, including but not limited to: law, child rights, child psychology, child protection / counselling, survivor care, behavioural change
- Deep expertise in safeguarding, child protection or similar investigations
- Deep experience of child protection, child safeguarding or SGBV issues and practice
- Leadership experience within an INGO, a complex large NGO, ministry or similar other organisation
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and diplomacy skills and ability to bring people from different cultures onboard
- Inspirational people and leadership skills
- Strong moral compass and ability to deal with complex and ambiguous dilemmas
- Awareness of own strengths and weaknesses and evidence of commitment to self-managed personal development
Desirable:
- Excellent communication skills, preferably through multiple media such as on-line webinars, face to face engagement, visualisations, infographics, etc.
- Strong analytical capabilities, incl. quantitative analysis
- Significant experience of building personal internal and external networks at senior level
- Multi-disciplinary experience of working successfully with senior managers to deliver major operational change with a track record of delivering results to high standards
- Extensive experience of planning and undertaking training programmes/workshops/trainings in child protection/safeguarding at a range of levels (e.g. field workers, managers, senior managers and decision makers)
- Proven track record of delivering high performance and leading an organization through a change process to institutionalize systems and procedures across a complex organization
- Self-sufficient, collaborative, proactive self-motivating work styles
- Ability to deliver results against demanding timetables and in the face of competing demands
- Ability to travel and work within challenging environments, such as conflict locations
- Proven competencies and experience of heading a safeguarding team or similar team
- Proven track record in strengthening organizational capacity in a distinct area
- Proven ability in terms of verbal communication, training and report writing in French, Spanish or Arabic language (preferred)
- Understanding of UK Charity Commission and other legal requirements for an international organization registered in the UK and compliance
- Experience of leadership, coordination and participation within professional networks
- Experience of work related travel in challenging environments
We can offer circa £68,000 per annum with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.
This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
