The role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced EDT Senior Practitioner in Camden’s out of hours Emergency Duty Team.
The EDT Senior Practitioner will respond appropriately to any social work emergencies out of normal office hours that cannot wait until the working day. This will include those from Children and Families, Looked-after Children, Youth Offending, Vulnerable Adults, Learning Disability and Mental Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing child at risk referrals, and working with the police and hospitals to ensure that children and young people are kept safe until work can be picked up the next working day.
The EDT SP will act as the corporate parent on behalf of the local authority to ensure well-being of looked after children. Support and advice will also be given to families in cases of urgency.
Similarly, the EDT Senior Practitioner will respond to and resolve issues concerning vulnerable adults, and those with severe and enduring Mental Health concerns, including formal Mental Health Act Assessments
Additionally, you will offer supervision and support to any social workers working out of office hours, and help plan the work of any individual sessional workers specifically allocated to EDT.
Over a 10 week rota, the EDT senior practitioner works as a lone practitioner 10 night shifts on weeknights (5pm-9am) and 8x 12hr weekend slots (4 weekend out of 10) (Pro-rata for part time workers)
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.
About you
To be considered for this exciting opportunity it is essential the successful candidate is a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England who is an Approved Mental Health Practitioner, with sound knowledge of Mental Health Acts. We will consider applications from social workers who are experienced in safeguarding children and are willing to train for the AMHP qualification.
You will have previous demonstrable experience of managing a varied caseload. An Approved Mental Health Professional applicant will have had experience working with other client groups, or be able to demonstrate your potential and knowledge regarding those client groups outside of any current specialism. You will have role-appropriate knowledge of relevant legislation affecting out-of-hours social work practice including the Children Act, the Care Act, the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty safeguards, the Human Rights Act, Police and Criminal Evidence Act and any other relevant legislation, and be able to work within legal and procedural requirements. Applicants without the AMHP qualification will come from senior roles in safeguarding children departments and be willing to train for the AMHP qualification.
You will be able to demonstrate flexibility, and have the ability to prioritise under pressure, work speedily, and find imaginative solutions. You will be a good communicator and be able to write clear concise and accurate reports
