As CIUK’s new Senior Safeguarding Advisor, you will build on the progress CIUK has already made in achieving the highest levels of compliance with CARE’s global safeguarding policy, in particular within the area of safeguarding in programmes. You will be central to the design and delivery of safe programming funded by UK donors, working closely with over 30 UK-based programme staff and with CARE country offices and partners around the world.

About you

You will be a safeguarding specialist, preferably with a relevant degree in education, social work or social sciences, and with at least three years’ experience delivering safeguarding or related training. You will have sound technical knowledge of best practices in safeguarding, as well as direct experience in case management. You will have a passion and commitment to upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and protection for participants in humanitarian and development programming, as well as the staff that deliver those programmes, and will have experience working in multi-cultural teams in a complex international organisation. You will be committed to gender equality and diversity and working equitably in partnership with local actors.

About the role

The Senior Safeguarding Advisor’s overall objective will be to prevent and manage safeguarding and protection cases by ensuring ongoing compliance of safeguarding in the UK office, improving programme design and management from a PHSEA perspective.  The post holder will sit within the Programme Delivery Department and work closely with the Director of Programme Delivery, as well as with the HR team.  They will lead the CIUK safeguarding virtual team working closely with HR and reporting to the CEO. The post holder will also be part of the CARE-wide network of PSEA focal points and work closely with country offices and donors on case management.
