Professional and Community Engagement Services provide a universal offering of learning, information, expert advice and support for key adult and professional audiences. Our priority is to enable people to protect children and prevent abuse. As a department we are uniquely placed to work across our key audiences to promote our work, raise awareness, deliver learning and transfer knowledge. We provide comprehensive and joined up information and support services and create integrated advice provision for professionals, volunteers, and other adults.
Child Protection in Sport Unit
The Child Protection in Sport Unit is part of the Professional and Community Engagement team within Strategy and Knowledge Department. It is a unique initiative to support the capacity of sport to safeguard all children in and through sport and to co-ordinate the delivery of multi-agency strategies and action plans to raise safeguarding awareness, standards, knowledge, and skills throughout sport. The role provides safeguarding advice, consultancy, training, and resources for a cohort of Sport Wales funded organisations to meet the Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in and through Sport in Wales. It also supports key work strands including taking the learning from independent reviews into sport and ensuring the sector take on those lessons. The role includes:-
- To make children in Wales safer in and through sport and contribute to the delivery of the NSPCC’s strategy by providing training, consultancy and advice services to a cohort of sports council funded sports organisations.
- To increase understanding of the safeguarding needs of children and young people and to enable those working with, providing services or activities or coming into contact with children to have the advice, information, skills, knowledge, systems and structures to protect them.
- To influence best practice in safeguarding children through the provision and development of child protection training and consultancy services which respond to the needs of specialist organisations and professionals working with children.
- To provide advice and support to sports organisations working with children with regards to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- To contribute to the development of the Child Protection in Sport Unit as a market leader and to manage projects within the Child Protection in Sport Unit.
About you:
We are looking for someone with substantial experience of child protection and knowledge of safeguarding. We are looking for someone to join the CPSU who has proven abilities in all aspects of training. You will need to have good inter-personal skills and be able to communicate at different levels and in different mediums, including writing reports and resources for the website. Ability to organise and prioritise a complex and demanding workload and project management skills would be helpful.
