Charity People is delighted to be partnering with an Islington based charity in their search for a new Safeguarding specialist to join their Board of Trustees. This inclusive and child-centred charity is excited to welcome a Safeguarding Trustee who will actively contribute to the growth and future direction of this highly impactful organisation making a difference in the lives of children in Islington.

About the Charity

At its core, they are an organisation dedicated to ensuring that Islington is a neighbourhood where all children can play outside. They firmly believe that play, as a definitive part of childhood, is integral to children’s happiness and wellbeing in the now, as well as for positive development and resilience into their futures. They know that outdoor self-directed play allows children to find out about themselves and who they can be, explore their world in their own way, on their own terms, and learn about what works and what doesn’t.

This award-winning organisation has been working for children’s right to play in Islington since 1971 by advocating for children’s play, supporting and developing local play providers, delivering projects that enhance the play offer across borough, moving onto delivering play services running 5 Islington adventure playgrounds and an Early Years provision at Paradise Park Children’s centre. The Charity advocates for play at the heart of the community, and their aim is to continue to grow these services in pursuit of their mission to nurture children’s potential, growth and well-being through play.

 

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an engaged youth safeguarding expert to come into the organisation and utilise their expertise to ensure that the Charity is implementing the most effective and current policies concerning safeguarding to ensure that children have a safe place to play and grow. The safeguarding trustee with be required to keep informed on the most current safeguarding policies, and be able to advise the organisation’s designated safeguarding lead, the Senior Management Team (SMT) and Board. On how to best implement them. They will also need to ensure that all safeguarding policies align with all current safeguarding legislation according to charity law.

 

About You

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

 You have senior level professional experience working with children and young people in a safeguarding capacity.

– You are confident that you can provide our designated safeguarding lead with robust strategic input and constructive scrutiny to our current safeguarding policies.

– You have experience working with children and young people from a diverse set of economic, racial and family backgrounds

– You are committed to the Charity’s values and feel passionately that children’s right to play is important for the health and development of the children of Islington.

 

Time Commitment

Board Meeting: Currently monthly, 1.5-2 hour board meetings. Meetings will become quarterly when trustee recruitment is complete.

Possible Sub-Committee Meetings: Quarterly
